Origami LAFF
This Origami Group meets monthly in Tucson, AZ usually on the third Saturday each month, from 1:00 to 4:00pm.
Meetings are free and open to the public. Members share ideas, teach each other, and generally have fun with paper folding! (Sometimes the date is
changed due to the library's schedule, so please check with us if you're not on the local mailing list.)

We began with some modular models from Gay Merrill Gross' "Minigami", a favorite book. We tried her 'Florette' and 'Rosette' models; members mounted some of them on 4x4" cards. We also folded a tiered cake model that was fun, and can be used to decorate cards. This model is by Margaret VanSicklen, and was found in her Page-a-Day origami calendar (Thank you Joey for the 6" squares, and also for the delicious homemade cookies that you brought!) We folded several more models as you'll see below:April 2011 Origami LAFF meeting:
Joey started us off with an inflatable bunny made from a traditional waterbomb base. She brought this model because this is the Year of the Rabbit! Then we tackled another rabbit model... this one from The Magic of Origami by Gray and Kasahara. The model is by Toshio Chino, and was a bit challenging for some of our members, but we got good results. An easier model to fold followed next: a clever variation of the traditional basket and handle, by James Sakoda. We folded this from 8.5" squares and it resulted in a good size for our rabbits to rest in. You'll see these below, along with other models we folded at the meeting. we all had a great time! Thanks everyone!March 2011 Origami LAFF meeting:
We didn't have a particular theme this month, and we were 'bumped' from our regular meeting room so we were set up in the main library. We had a great turn-out, with several folders visiting for the first time; welcome all! I'm hoping more pix will be shared since I didn't get my camera out until everyone had left...so all I have are pix of the projects, but none of the group.February 2011 Origami LAFF meeting:
We had fun creating some origami Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) this month. ATCs are small art cards the size of traditional trading cards, 2.5 x 3.5". Size is one of the only restrictions for making these cards - the other is that they only be traded, never sold. ATCs originated in Switzerland in 1996, and they can be made in any way desired; our cards have the extra stipulation that they have something origami on the card.January 2011 Origami LAFF meeting:
We focused on Valentine folding this month. Some of our favorites were the "Beating Heart" that Erika taught the group, the "Flying Heart" by Paul Ed, and the Valentine Place Card, both taught by Mary Ellen. To see more pictures from past meetings please go to the Origami LAFF archives.
